Lombardy

In 568, a Turkic tribe, the Avars, pushed the Germanic Lombards out of their home in Central Europe. The Lombards moved south into northern Italy, and conquered it from the Byzantines who had been ruling there. The Lombards ruled a Kingdom in Italy from 568 to 774. Their legacy is apparent in the regional appellation, Lombardy.
