3º CC.SS. - TEMA 1 - The Milky Way

There are 200 billion to 400 billion stars in the Milky Way Galaxy, one of which is the sun.

Our galaxy is called the Milky Way Galaxy after the milky-white band of light in the sky. We get he name Milky Way from the ancient Greeks. Their stories described this cloudy path of stars as a road of milk. The Milky Way is also sometimes just called the Galaxy ('milky' in Greek).

The Galaxy includes not only the stars in the cloudy path across the night sky, but all the stars we can see.

Beyond these stars are more stars we can't see. The Milky Way Galaxy is just one among more than 100 billion galaxies in the universe.
